AGOSCI early career peer support group
Peer connection for professionals who are new to disability and communication support needs
Meeting overview
AGOSCI is a member-based organisation, here to support a more inclusive community for people with communication support needs. AGOSCI is aware that professionals who are new to working in this space can feel overwhelmed and isolated.
The new AGOSCI peer support group is designed to bring like-minded professionals together for peer support and connection. Our aim is to reduce isolation and encourage a network of support for people working in AAC and disability.
To encourage a safe space, these meetings will not be recorded. Attendees are encouraged to register in advance to attend the live event.
AGOSCI will host and facilitate meeting discussions, with opportunity for group members to explore topics of interest together and build a network of peer support.
Audience
AGOSCI encourages any current members who are early career professionals, are new to the disability field, or new to AAC to join these meetings.
This is a member-only event.
Meeting topic
The early careers group will be running communication support needs case study discussions using a group protocol and consultancy group format. This will provide members the opportunity to have clinical discussions which will be facilitated by experienced speech pathologist Melissa Bakes.
We request 1 person to present their case study. If you have a case study you would like to present, please send a brief outline to earlycareers@agosci.org.au at least 1 week prior to the meeting. Mel can work with you (if you would like) to present your case. The idea of the protocol is for the group to discuss ideas/resources/thoughts, in a systematic way. This may be something new or something the presenter has not considered before, or as a way of re-affirming what you are already doing.
Everyone is welcome to be a part of the discussion. We will have a maximum of 6 people to be part of the consultancy group and others may listen in and have any questions answered through the discussion, as time permits.
Group protocol and consultancy group documents will be provided prior to the meeting.
