What Does Culturally Safe Communication Practice Look Like? Presented by Kerri Colgate

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and to participate in celebrations of one of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. The 2024 theme is “Keep The Fire Burning! Blak, Loud And Proud."

This webinar will be an interactive opportunity to learn about culturally safe practice, communication and language therapy in an Aboriginal context and the benefits of cross-cultural immersion.

Presenter

Kerri Colgate is a Noongar/Yamatji woman from the Whadjuk, Yuat clans, mother of two adult children and grandmother to three. She has her own consultancy business – KM Noongar Consultancy Services, specializing in disability support, capacity building and cultural consultancy. She is also currently Research Project Manager of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sub-study of the AUS-mTBI project based at ECU (MRFF funded) and the creator and coordinator of the Yarning Group for Aboriginal people of all ages with disabilities and the Brain Injury Yarning Circles project (WA Neurotrauma Research Program funded). Kerri has presented at national and international brain injury conferences and webinars and has published in the areas of intersectionality, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals as these topics relate to Aboriginal people with brain injury.

• 50% refund between 8-59 days before event

• No refunds within 0-7 days before event start date

Applications for registrations are subject to final approval by AGOSCI to ensure fair and equal access to events across organisations. Waitlist registrations will be taken upon all positions being filled.
