Webinar overview

Develop a broad understanding of language organisation systems, software platforms, and how to apply feature-matching tools for system selection that meets an individual's needs.

 

Learning outcomes

  • Increase awareness of different language organisation options 

  • Become familiar with a suite of commonly used terms related to AAC software

  • Understand the concept of a 'robust' language system and what this means

  • Get to know some available software platforms* and their corresponding language organisation systems
    *This webinar will discuss software supported by the presenters' suppliers only (LinkAT, Liberator, & Zyteq)  

  • Broaden awareness of both symbol-based and text-based language systems

  • Understand the symbol sets available within different language systems

  • Access tools and frameworks for software feature-matching to client needs 

 

Target Audience

This workshop is for any person new to the AAC process, or wanting to know more about language organisation systems and AAC software platforms.

This webinar will be helpful if you are a speech pathologist, family member, or educator exploring language organisation systems for a person with complex communication needs.

Leanna Fox trained as a Speech Pathologist at Sydney University. She has been working in the area of complex communication needs since 2004 both abroad and locally. Her current role at Liberator Pty Ltd includes providing clinical services in the area of disability including therapy, supervision  and training regarding AAC.

Charlene Cullen has been a speech pathologist working in the disability sector with children and adults for over 20 years. She is currently working as an assistive technology consultant with Link Assistive and has a strong passion in the area of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and assistive technologies. These include eye gaze technology, alternative access options, environmental control, mounting solutions and an interest in the area of voice banking. Charlene enjoys supporting people with complex communication needs and/or physical impairments, their families, therapists and community supports through demonstrations of products, supporting trials, training, workshops, exhibiting at conferences and presenting papers both nationally and internationally.

Karyn Muscat is a speech pathologist and clinical team leader at Zyteq. Karyn has specialised in assistive technology for people with complex communication needs in her speech pathology clinical work. In her previous roles, Karyn has worked in private practice, within the Department of Education and the Communication Access Network – a specialist service for adults who use AAC. Karyn has a special interest in the use of eye-gaze and other technology to support both in-person and online communication.

Registration is only confirmed upon full payment of fee. Please note total ticket price will include an additional $0.69 + 0.7% per-transaction service fee. To access the discounted rate for members you must be logged into your AGOSCI member account prior to registration. 

  • 100% refund until 60 days before event

  • 50% refund between 8-59 days before event

  • No refunds within 0-7 days before event start date

Applications for registrations are subject to final approval by AGOSCI to ensure fair and equal access to events across organisations. Waitlist registrations will be taken upon all positions being filled.
