Workshop overview
Develop a practical plan with interactive strategies to support the use of comprehensive communication aids such as multilevel communication books and electronic aids and apps.
This workshop will cover:
- The different types of communication aids and their purposes
- How to use comprehensive communication aids effectively
- Goal-setting for improved AAC use
- Planning for sustained AAC
Target Audience
This workshop is for those who are;

new to the area of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC),
-
who manage a caseload of current and potential AAC users,
-
are learning to embrace a comprehensive AAC system,
- a member of an AAC user’s support network, and would like to learn ways that support AAC use.
Workshop Details
- Attendance at both live workshop sessions is required
- Access to technology to access the workshop via video conference (zoom) is required
- These sessions will not be recorded
- Complete two tasks in between the first and second workshop and share with the group
- Tasks involve:
- Trialling the communication aid with an AAC user
- Setting a communication goal that utilises AAC strategies

Presenter
Naomi Sellman is a speech pathologist in Melbourne, Australia. She works supporting multi-modal communicators to find the right AAC for them, upskilling their families, friends, and other support people to use them in all environments. Naomi also supports clients with complex mealtime support needs. Beginning her speech pathology career in a large team at a specialist school, then moving across to Scope, Naomi’s passion for multi-modal communication has grown from the start. Naomi currently works between the Therapy team and Non-Electronic Communication Aid Service (NECAS). She provides direct client support in low and high-tech AAC or dysphagia management as well as training, coaching and capacity building for support workers in supported independent living and social connections programs. In her spare time, you might find Naomi on a long walk, in search of a good Chai or pottering in her tiny garden.

Registration is only confirmed upon full payment of fee. Please note total ticket price will include an additional $0.69 + 0.7% per transaction service fee. To access the discounted rate for members you must be logged into your AGOSCI member account prior to registration.
- 100% refund minus the service fee ($0.69 + 0.7% per transaction) until 60 days before event
- 50% refund minus the service fee ($0.69 + 0.7% per transaction) between 8-59 days before event
- No refunds within 0-7 days before event start date
- If the event is cancelled by AGOSCI you will receive 100% refund including the service fee ($0.69 + 0.7% per transaction)
Applications for registrations are subject to final approval by AGOSCI to ensure fair and equal access to events across organisations. Waitlist registrations will be taken upon all positions being filled.
