Problem Solving Access to Aided Language for Children with Sensory Processing and Motor Challenges
AGOSCI is proud to partner with Cerebral Palsy Education Centre (CPEC) to bring you this online workshop.
Workshop Overview
Developing an individual’s access method to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems can be complex! This can be impacted by individual factors including movement differences, sensory processing challenges, and complex behaviours.
In this workshop, we will identify factors that can impact on access to AAC and strategies that can be used to support individuals with sensory and motor challenges to develop their communication skills.
Learning Outcomes
- Outline sensory processing and discuss the impact of sensory processing differences on learning to use AAC.
- Discuss how movement differences can affect the development of autonomous communication.
- Discuss challenges in implementing AAC strategies for students with complex needs and behaviours.
- Explore strategies to support students to learn to communicate, including teaching movement and meeting sensory needs within everyday environments.
