Co-presenters
Leah Coutinho is a Special Education teacher with over four years of experience supporting students with diverse needs, including physical disabilities, neurodivergence, and vision impairments, many of whom have complex communication needs. She is passionate about creating meaningful opportunities for communication and fostering authentic friendships among her students. Leah strongly believes that every individual should be able to express what they want, when they want, and in the way that works best for them. She views comprehensive literacy as a critical component in enabling this autonomy and voice.
Carissa Chui is the WA Representative for AGOSCI and a speech pathologist at ProAACtive Speech Pathology. She brings a diverse professional background to her role, having previously worked as an educator in Singapore. In her work as a speech pathologist, Carissa collaborates closely with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to build confidence in AAC implementation and support meaningful student participation and agency. She is passionate about creating communication-rich environments where individuals are empowered to express themselves authentically and be heard.
