Research: Equitable and personalised communication access through an agency and identity lens
Presented by Jing (Jenny) Hu
Webinar overview
This member webinar will showcase an AGOSCI funded research project focused on learner agency and identity amongst disabled university students with diverse content and communication access needs.
The session will introduce why it matters now to look beyond speech-centric AAC paradigms in tertiary learning contexts, with particular emphasis on treating all forms of content and communication as equal in learning processes. The audience will learn key findings that demonstrate how disabled adult students exercise agency not only to participate in institutional learning, but to show how they wish to be seen and heard as valued participants. Three key elements that constitutes equitable and personalised access are identified: time, choice, and voice.
This research was supported by the AGOSCI 2025 Research Grant.
