Who We Are
AGOSCI – Early History
AGOSCI was created in 1981 by a group of Speech Pathologists within Speech Pathology Australia who had a vision to have a wider reach in regard to supporting people with complex communication needs, their families, and their professional and community networks.
The AGOSCI name was an acronym for “Australian Group on Severe Communication Impairment”. Due to changes in terminology and the focus of the group, we no longer refer to ourselves in that way but continue to use the acronym as our name.
Our Vision
Individual differences in communication assistance needs, modes and styles, are acknowledged and supported throughout communities and in all spaces so that all communicators can participate fully in all aspects of life.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to provide a community and platform for multimodal communicators, their families and supporters, and the professionals who work with them; to facilitate opportunities and activities that work in service of our vision; and advocate for our community.
