About Attention Autism ™
Attention Autism ™ is an intervention model designed by Gina Davies, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. It aims to develop natural and spontaneous communication through the use of visually based and highly motivating activities.
By delivering activities that inspire childrens’ attention Attention Autism ™ creates opportunities for Autistic individuals to learn and share enjoyment as part of a group. Attention Autism ™ brings engagement, curiosity and joy to children and adults alike. Importantly this approach will help you plant shared good memories that underpin good relationships, communication and learning.
Learning Outcomes
This 2 day course equips attendees with the skills to set up and run the four stage Attention Autism programme ™ , focusing on the practical aspects of intervention, working in a team and offering an irresistible invitation to learn.
The training is run applying the principles of the Attention Autism programme ™ throughout each day and involves demonstrations of the techniques in action, films of the work with children, practical hands-on experience for participants and ideas for activities. The intention is to share the practical skills needed for participants to feel confident in setting up and running the intervention immediately.
Intended Audience
This workshop is suitable for speech pathologists, occupational therapists, assistants, educators, education support staff, parents and carers of Autistic children.
The workshops are run for groups of 25 people, this is to ensure that the practical aspects of the workshop can be run in small groups making coaching and feedback effective.
Our Presenter
Emer Hurley graduated from the National University of Ireland, Galway, with an Honours degree in Speech and Language Therapy in 2014. Emer worked as a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in schools across London before moving to Melbourne. In Melbourne, Emer completed her Masters in Special and Inclusive Education at Monash University.
Emer discovered the joy of Attention Autism ™ early in her career and was captivated by the creative, dynamic and irresistible nature of the programme. She had the privilege to train under Gina Davies, the founder of Attention Autism ™ , and witness the great joy, connection and engagement the programme brought to children, families and teams. She has used Attention Autism ™ with a range of children between the ages of 2-12 years across home, specialist settings, clinics, early childcare settings and mainstream schools. Inspired by the real life positive outcomes, she went on to further build her practice of Attention Autism ™ and became a Licensed Trainer through the Gina Davies Autism Centre. Emer is excited to share the Attention Autism programme™ in one of her favourite Melbourne locations, The Abbotsford Convent.
